Today was our first day at Camp John Marc.
Before we left Dallas, we ate at Deep Sushi, which was definitely worth the stop. I liked the atmosphere, but the food was delicious!
After lunch, we started on our way to Meridian. I fell asleep for a bit of the ride and awoke as we neared our destination. Scott’s excitement was measurable.
In a few hours we reached the gates of Camp John Marc. We drove in, walked to the main office, and he reunited with his old friends and Vance. We learned we were some of the first people there, and took our time enjoying everything around us while we unpacked the car and drove it outside the gates to park it.
We walked the grounds before we sat down for our first dinner. We sat next to Brenda and Emily while we ate our hamburgers, potato chips, and baked beans. After dinner, we all enjoyed ice cream sundaes before our finale of the evening – a campfire!
We sang many songs: Going on a Berfel Hunt, Don’t Wear No Socks, Bazooka Bubblegum, Boom Chicka Boom, Three Shortneck Buzzards, Star Up in the Sky. We also played Rollercoaster, and listened to stories about lost baby deer and Rindercella.
It was an amazing day that ended with fry bread and singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star with the rest of the camp. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
